OUR STORY

IBA-PU Alumni Association is a registered body under Societies Registration Act 1860. Its purpose is to foster, maintain and support a mutually beneficial relationship between alumni and the IBA, University of the Punjab. The Executive Committee, comprising elected Fellow Members of Alumni and Senior Vice President (A Faculty member nominated by department IBA), governs the Association as per approved Articles of Association, setting policy, providing guidance for the Association’s programs and activities, and represents the interests of alumni to the IBA. Director IBA, PU, is the patron of the Alumni Association.

Institute of Business Administration, University of the Punjab traces its history back to 1972 when it was established as a department. This department was upgraded as an institute in 1987. This was a great milestone in the history of the University, as IBA was only the second Institute in Pakistan where Business Administration was taught. It has grown ever since and produced numerous great names in different fields.

Over the years, IBA has earned national and international repute for its teaching and research. It has produced more than 10,000 graduates who are known for their outstanding professional expertise and proficiency, both within and outside the country.

Punjab University has more than 100 departments and institutes, but very few have so close networking with their alumni. It is a matter of pride that IBA-PU is one of those few who have an active and vibrant Alumni Association. This Association is recognized as a valuable resource not only by the IBA-PU community but also by the Punjab University. A dedicated Executive Committee partnering effectively with Alumni to offer services and programs that foster its traditions and perpetuate a passion for a life-long involvement with the alma mater.

Many efforts to establish IBA Alumni Association remained futile until in May of 2007, IBA organized inaugural Annual Dinner for the Alumni. In this function, announcement was made to hold elections for Alumni in June-2007.

In June 2007, a consensus was developed within the Institute that in the absence of any rules and regulations, it may not be possible to hold elections for Executive Committee of IBA, PU, Alumni Association. It was therefore decided that Director IBA will nominate the office-bearers for Alumni Association for one year (Year 2007-08). These office bearer were given the mandate of one year only to:

• • to frame the Memorandum & Articles of Association of IBA Alumni association;
  • to get it registered with the regulatory Authority;
  • to arrange the database of all alumni passed out; and
  • to broaden the base of membership of the Alumni.

The first nominated body of IBA-PU Alumni Association got registered under Society Registration Act, XXI of 1860. Subsequently a full organization was created. Under this and subsequent committees a database of Alumni Members built, a website was developed to enhance the membership base through online membership applications, developing repository, and engaging active Alumni / coordinators / conveners, which is continued by the successive elected bodies in its true spirit till date.

First Election for the Executive Committee members were held on November 16, 2008. Since then, elections are regularly held every three years, following all the democratic norms.
